One of Britain’s finest aircraft has been returned to the skies in a blaze of glory with perfect pressure in its tyres, thanks to PCL

The campaign group responsible for getting the Avro Vulcan Bomber XH558 back the skies had an original 1940s PCL tyre pressure gauge which they thought couldn’t be mended.

But PCL was able to recalibrate it ready for general use on the Vulcan and all was well…until the Vulcan was ready to be moved recently for an engine test as part of a programmed schedule of ground maintenance.

It was then discovered that the gauge was not able to measure the top pressure required for the Vulcan, and it looked like the project was going to be set back, so they sent out another SOS call to PCL’s

Operators in the fitting area were previously using manual gauges on fitted machines, which proved time-consuming not just to inflate the tyres but to make continuous checks for accuracy.

After ordering 8 wall-mounted ACCURA 12 inflation units there has been a significant improvement in tyre inflation times, with one particular assembly having its inflation time reduced from 15 minutes 34 seconds to 4 minutes 26 seconds.

Energy supplier Scottish & Southern teams up with PCL

Energy supplier Scottish & Southern has teamed up with PCL, expert in tyre inflation equipment, to provide its staff with a vital gift to keep them safe on the roads.

As the latest project in its on-going health & safety initiative, Scottish & Southern decided to target tyre maintenance, which if neglected can cause serious, even fatal accidents.

PCL was asked to supply 17,500 pencil-style tyre pressure gauges along with tyre trade depth gauges, which Scottish & Southern gave to employees in a company wallet enclosing a safety leaflet. The response was so great that a further 2,000 of each gauge were supplied to cover the extra unexpected demand.
